I’ve been wanting to create a photo wall in our home for a while and I finally got the opportunity! I used inexpensive shelves from IKEA after seeing a similiar shelf at Pottery Barn that was just a bit out of my budget. I wanted a variety of black and white and color images and through in my new fabulous ampersand to add interest. I needed an updated photo of my kids, so I used Printcopia to order a black and white 8×10″ canvas of a beautiful photo from our Somewhere Over the Rainbow Party. I love how it turned out!
TIP: When you are deciding where to place shelves, consider the size of frame, prints, or art that you will be setting on them. Make sure to leave plenty of room between if you are hanging more than one! You want to be able to mix and match and swap things out in the future as well. It may help to cut out cardboard or paper pieces the same size of the frames you are displaying and use removable masking tape to mark out where the shelfs will hang and see how the pieces fit!
Five ideas for creating your own gallery wall:
1. Mount ledges for a contemporary look.
2. Vary frames in shapes, sizes and finishes.
3. Stagger and layer for depth.
4. Mix art, photos and illustrations.
5. Add small objects for interest.
