{REAL PARTIES} Plants Fighting Zombies

Have you ever played the video game Plants VS. Zombies? You can download it on your Kindle, I-Phone, Wii, etc. You can learn about it on Popcaps Website. My son LOVES this game. I have to admit I have played it a time or two myself and it is quite addicting! So when he told me he wanted his birthday party to be based on the game I thought it would be a fun challenge! And so our Plants FIGHTING Zombies theme was born!

The centerpiece of the dessert table was this “Plant J” I created using a simple cardboard monogram purchased at Joanns Craft & Fabric Store by covering it with green scrapbook paper. I cut the leaves out freehand with scissors from the same paper and shaded it with chalk.

My very first task in planning was to shoot an email off to the fabulous Linda of Frog Prince Cake & Cookie design   and see what amazing confections she could create for me. And man, did she come through! These adorable fondant Sunflowers arrived and I was giddy. The sunflowers are some of the most powerful plants in the fight against invading zombies!  The cheery fondants look like they’re right out of the game.
Linda was wonderful to work with! Be sure and check out her blog

The fondant toppers and leaves arrived with white Wilton lollipop sticks ready for cupcakes! I used Wilton’s Color Mist Food Color to color the lolli sticks green, purchased some mini clay pots from my local Michaels store and ordered some simple vanilla cupcakes with grass green frosting from my local grocery store. I usually spend way too much time making an elaborate cake and getting stressed out but this couldn’t have been simpler for me – and I love the results!

Keeping with the “make it simple for mom” idea,  I decided to create some easy Marshmallow pops.
Using the same method as in our Marshmallow Snowmen Tutorial, some striped party straws & the neck ties from our Plants Fighting Zombies Printables; I  whipped up these little Zombies in twenty minutes!

I embellished Itsy Belle’s Printable Chevron Zombie Tombstone Birthday Banner with some

Handmade Crepe Grass Green Fringe from Tadpoles and Teacups Etsy Shop and used a glitter pen to trace over the letters!

Sweets served included Zombie Eyes (Chocolate Balls purchased on clearance after Halloween) and Brain Juice (Green Hawaiian Punch), as well as weapons thrown by the plants to stop Zombies in their tracks! “Repeater Peas”, “Snow Pea Peas” (Jelly Belly Jelly Beans), “Stumps” (Chocolate Licorice).
Each guest was sent home with Thank You pack of “Peashooter Peas” (Green Skittles) to shoot at Zombies to “Protect Your Brains!”

Overall the kids loved seeing their favorite video game come to life and with plenty of sweets to spare!
Hope you enjoyed this battle for the brains!
